MLS, baseball and the Memorial Coliseum

Portland pushed hard to get the newest MLS team, but that meant converting PGE Park into a soccer-only stadium.

Renovating PGE Park meant kicking the Portland Beavers out and (probably) building a new baseball stadium for the AAA PAdres affiliate.

The latest proposal involves tearing down Memorial Coliseum in the Rose Quarter and building a new stadium.  Veteran groups are up in arms because the 'memorial' in 'Memorial Coliseum' was a tribute to fallen military personel.

What do you think should be done?

Are veteran groups overreacting? Should the Beavers find another place to build? Should the soccer stadium be somewhere else?

Here is your chance to sound off...

It seems to me there are several locations around Portland that could accommodate the Portland Beavers.  Walker Statium, Scavone and I believe one in North Portland.  None of these would require tearing down the Memorial Coliseum and would also enhance the neighborhood where they decide to develop.  Spending money when it is not necessary in these difficult times does not make sense when jobs and revenue can be created in an existing neighborhood.  I believe property is also available on Sandy Blvd.
